At CLC Duchally Country Estate we love being green, and we love being Gold!

News that the resort has retained its Gold award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) with ‘a continued strong performance’ and improved percentage score, has delighted the team.

Auditor Fiona Meikle reported: “This reflects a very positive approach and much new investment.” New installations have included Biomass 2, to provide all the hotel heating and hot water requirements. She also commented that the use of local and regional produce “continues to be outstanding” with double-dived scallops an interesting addition to the menu.

Many other improvements are given mention, as well as praise for the ‘very well organised’ recycling and excellent re-use examples. “(CLC)Duchally also stands out for its charity support and work in encouraging other businesses and students.”

The resort was audited under the ‘more  rigorous’ Version V of the Green Tourism criteria, resulting in an overall score of 82% and ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ in each of its scored categories. Gold is the highest level award under the GTBS scheme. Not that this leads to any resting on laurels… ‘Greening’ the resort and managing its wildlife, which includes endangered red squirrels, continues with exciting possibilities for further improvements, as and when time and investment permits.

“I am immensely proud of my team,” says Resort Manager Graeme MacDonald, “and we remain entirely committed to this endeavour.”
