A kaleidoscopic spectrum of art and crafts from more than 220 artists and makers, at 138 venues, is on show to the public during the nine days of Perthshire Open Studios (POS), September 6-14.

This annual event, now in its seventh year, is a highlight of the Scottish Arts calendar providing opportunities to meet and interact with the artists, watch them in their workshops and perhaps even have a go yourself.

Each year the numbers of participants and visitors goes up, with over 18,000 attending in 2013 and more than ever expected this year in the wake of increased publicity and the support of EventScotland.

Paintings, jewellery, ceramics, textiles, wood items, glass, furniture and other media and work all jostle for attention. Fortunately, a comprehensive guide, available to download, illustrates seven routes, each indicated by a colour, with directions and suggestions on parking and where to eat.

You can also check out information about all the artists and venues from A, for Aberfeldy Gallery with its four rooms of mixed exhibits, to Z for Zanna Wilson who paints detailed landscapes at Lagg Studio, which is by her home.

A Showcase Exhibition for the event is already under way featuring individual pieces by POS members and a selection of work by renowned Scottish artist Kate Downie. The exhibition is at The Bield, Blackruthen, Tibbermore, a venue with beautiful gardens, and is open daily up to September 14th from 10am to 5pm.

Participating artists are drawn from across Perthshire and Kinross-shire; a region that overflows with artistic inspiration in its rich scenery and abundant wildlife, all of which is reflected in their work in so many different ways.

If you are holidaying in Perthshire during POS, submerge yourselves in a fabulous world of creativity and talent, and whether you have a few pounds to spare, or are lucky enough to have thousands, you could return with a unique piece of art, or quality crafted item, to remember your visit by.
